Gill Manly opens Croydonites Festival of New Theatre will her solo show Radio Apocalypse.

Edie Rock is an internet community radio DJ.  She hosts a night time radio chat show from the black hole called “a studio” at Light FM!! No windows, no one else in the building, just Edie and the world on the net.  As the twitter feeds and news roll in on line, it becomes apparent all is not well.  Has “fire and fury” been unleashed by Donald Trump?  Or is it a case of fake news? As the show progresses all becomes clear, or does it?

A great, thought-provoking production; loved the music too and Gill's solo at the end was a lovely bonus. The pub itself is rather expensive for food and drink compared to other pubs in the immediate vicinity. Visited Spread Eagle Pub and Theatre on 2018-04-28

It felt like quite a personal piece which was entertaining, but also a bit uncomfortable to view sometimes. Nontheless, it was a short entertaining piece which was fully of character and really felt quite immersive. I enjoyed the radio show format which plugged local arts and busineses. Although this did made me miss having the now defunct Croydon Radio as our local radio station, as it had had the right relevance. Gill Manly is a well known jazz singer and to also be treated a short song was a delightful experience. I also enjoyed her sad clown dance in the final act and admired how moxy when she invited the audience to join her to protest against President Trump's UK visit on 13 July 2018. Unengaging, uninspiring and an insult to the audience. So you hate Donald Trump. I get that. So do I. But don't reduce world politics down to a single issue left versus right, wrong versus right. And don't perform in a way that doesn't capture the audience in any way. Actually, an hour of Gill Manly singing would have been much better, as she has quite a good voice. But donning the mask of Comedia dell'arte was insulting a thousand years of history of drama. Awful. Visited Spread Eagle Pub and Theatre on 2018-04-28
